NIA recommends Closure of trade along LOC

New Delhi, July 2: A recommendation was made yesterday. The National Investigation Agency has recommended to the government for the closure of the trade between India and Pakistan at LoC border.

The agency has revealed that the trade between borders is being misused and several traders are involved in funding terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir. Currently the LoC barter trade consisats of 21 items. Officials say that trade happens from Salamabad and Chakkan Da Bagh trade facilitation centers (TFCs).

The barter was started in 2008 as part of confidence building measures but it is not serving the actual purpose. Sources have found that there are large scale under-invoicing and over-invoicing of products such as

* California almonds
* shawls
* pulses.

They have also found out that this barter system is hurting the business of other traders in Jammu and the Kashmir valley. Finally, they have said that Pakistan is using these traders for funding terrorists under the garb of trade relations between two countries.
