Cinema ticket price hike put on hold

Hyderabad, July 01: Good news for film Lovers. The Telangana government is learnt to have decided to keep in abeyance its recent decision to effect significant hike in the prices of cinema tickets.

Earlier on June 23, the government announced that the minimum price of first class tickets in air-conditioned theaters in urban areas would be hiked from Rs. 70 to Rs. 120. The minimum price of the lower class ticket in rural areas was pegged at Rs. 20 while it was made Rs. 30 in urban areas.

The price for first-class tickets in municipalities and other urban areas was expected to be raised to Rs. 80.

Coming at a time when the State was gearing up to put in place an effective mechanism for the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax regime, the Government’s order raised many an eyebrow.

The decision was, however, not implemented following the objections raised by leading film producers.
