NPPA :Medicines prices unaffected by GST

New Delhi June 30: A good news for patients. National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) drug pricing regulator in the country has today said that prices of around 78 per cent of 'actively used' drugs will not change after the rollout of GST from July 1.

NPPA has already reduced the prices of 761 medicines. these include medicines such as
* Anti-cancer
* HIV
* Diabetes
* Antibiotics

The regulator has said that we have reduced the prices after we have calculated new prices according to GST rate applicable. The GST Council has decided to impose a 12 % tax on medicines. Currently, 9 % tax is being levied on medicines. NPPA chairman also assured that implementation of GST would not result in the shortage of medicines.
