GST IPL tickets to attract 28 percent GST

Bengaluru, India June 30: A sad news for sports viewers. The GST Council has decided to levy following taxes on the sports events.

* IPL tickets will attract 28 % GST. Currently, 15 % service tax and
entertainment tax (varies according to state) have been levied.

* All Recognisable sports events organized by sports bodies such as BCCI,
hockey federation and other association tickets will attract 18 % GST.

* Tickets whose price is less than RS 250 will be exempt from new tax regime.

* Currently there was a tax exemption for tickets on recognizable sports events.

* Sponsorships will attract 18 % GST. currently, a corporate or a partnership firm
was paying 15 % service tax on sponsorships.

* National Sports Federations, Association of Indian Universities, School Games
Federation of India, Paralympic Committee of India, Indian Olympic Association
will be exempted from GST because these bodies belong to national games.The
council has not yet decided on Cricket.

* Professional coaching and private academies will attract 18% GST.

Finally, the sports authorities have demanded a lower tax rate or increase in threshold limit because RS 250 seats are limited in stadiums.
