Chandrababu Naidu released Godavari Water

Vijayawada, June 27: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has released the Godavari water from Krishna delta of Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada here on Monday.

While speaking to media after releasing Godavari water, The government released nearly 2,500 cusecs of water to the East Delta from Prakasam barrage.

He said that at the same time they released 1,000 cusecs of water to Ryvas canal and 500 cusecs of water for each canal including Bandar and Eluru from the Prakasam barrage.

If water is released late, cyclones that usually ravage coastal Andhra during November will cause losses to farmers. Because there was no water in the Krishna there was ingress of salinity into groundwater in coastal areas, Mr. Naidu explained.

He observed that, when there were no projects in the upper riparian States of Krishna river, the Krishna delta in Guntur and Krishna districts were able to get water in June. But, later it was delayed due to the construction of projects on Krishna River. Thereby, the farmers in the Krishna delta experienced losses due to the cyclones.

He said that, now, the government has been providing irrigation water to the delta farmers in the month of June itself, through the Pattiseema.

He criticized that the opposition party YSRCP and its president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy created problems to the Pattiseema for political gains.
