Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Announces Rs. 34,000 Crore Farm Loan Waiver

Mumbai, June 24: The Maharashtra government has announced the apology of agricultural loans of up to 1.5 lakh farmers. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in a press conference that since 2012 Maharashtra has been drought-prone and since then many farmers have not been able to pay the loan.

He said, "We have decided to forgive the debt after discussing with the heads of all the parties." With this decision, the state government will have a burden of Rs 34,000 crore.

The Chief Minister said that this is the biggest debt waiver in the history of the country and in this situation, there is no state government in the event of greater debt waiver.

He said that it will benefit 89 lakh farmers. The name of this scheme has been named Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Krishi Samman Yojana. Farmers who pay income tax will not get the benefit of the loan waiver.
