Government relaxes rules for bamboo exports

New Delhi, June 24: some rules have been cleared yesterday.The government yesterday has relaxed norms which are required for export of bamboo products. The government has taken this decision to improve the export of bamboo and its products. Currently, India exports very little bamboo.

The directorate general of foreign trade had issued a notification.The order says that Export of muli bamboo, bamboo products except for bamboo charcoal, bamboo pulp and unprocessed bamboo shoots will be permitted till March 31, 2019.

Currently, DGFT body is responsible for granting permissions for Indian exports and imports. The notification issued also said that all exporters must submit a certificate issued by the forest department.

Sources say that Germany is the prominent importer of Indian bamboos. The data released by commerce ministry shows that India's bamboo exports in 2016-17 was only USD 0.05 million (about Rs 32 lakh). The government hopes that the exports would grow with the recent relaxations issued.
