Martial arts champion arrested with 17 pistols

Ghaziabad, June 24: An arms smuggling racket was unearthed here on Friday as a national champion of modern Korean mixed martial art was arrested from the railway station and 17 pistols seized from him.

According to police, the Superintendent of Police City's Special Operation Group nabbed a person who exiting from the Ghaziabad railway station with a heavy backpack on his shoulders after becoming suspicious. The SOG team, which was in plain clothes, intercepted him and asked to search him which he resisted.

But as the policemen identified themselves, he had to agree and was taken to the police station where 17 pistols of .315 caliber made in a local factory were recovered from his possession.

The man identified himself as Vicky Panchal, son of Sahab Singh of Prem Nagar, Loni and also said he was national level award winner of 3rd Sub Junior level Tong-IL Moo-Do championship which was held in New Delhi this January

He revealed that his partner Ajay Kumar, a resident of Loni, manufactured the pistols at a modern plant at his hideout, and these were much in demand in the underworld market due to being of good quality. However, Ajay Kumar was arrested by Delhi Police last week and Panchal said that he was apprehending his arrest since his partner might have revealed all his possible hideouts.

"We are planning to take his police remand so that a national level arm smuggling racket could be burst," said SP, City, Akash Tomar.
