GHMC to spend up to Rs. 230 crore

Hyderabad, June 17: The Monsoon has started, from this perspective heavy rains damages the road etc.For this govt is planning to spend a whopping money for the development of roads.

Coming to details, While the rains have arrived giving an indication of what the future portends, the Government has, rather belatedly, given administrative sanction to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to spend up to Rs. 230 crore for taking up immediate repairs of stormwater drains ( 'nalas') at certain critical sites in the twin cities.

The permission to the municipal corporation to use its own funds for improvement of bottlenecks on certain sections was given by Municipal Administration Secretary Navin Mittal on Friday.

Incidentally, the sanction was accorded after GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy had written to the Government last year after much damage due to heavy rains in September to allow it to spend the sum as a preliminary survey of 47 storm water drains had shown that for a 16.55 km stretch urgent repairs were required.

Repairs should be taken up "before the onset of monsoon on a priority basis to avoid inundation". And though the monsoon is here, Dr. Reddy has directed the engineering and town planning officials to take up and complete the works, especially in the Kukatpally hydraulic zone.
