CBI spokesman R. K. Gaur who has written a letter has said: "India does not require any lesson on freedom of the press from any International Newspaper".He also quoted that " country's institutions have rich and diverse cultural heritage and are traditionally nurtured by democratic ethos".

The editorial published contains some demeaning statements about Indian agencies. However, the NY Times has not reacted over the letter it has received.
