New Truck Parking terminal launched at Vizag Port

Vishakapatnam, June 16: A new truck parking terminal has launched by the Trust Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu at the Visakhapatnam Porton here on Thursday.

The parking terminal developed in an area of 10 acres will provide the trucks engaged by the port users timely parking, receipt and despatch of the cargo to the port and the destination.

The port trust has spent Rs. 1.6 crore for hard surfacing, compound wall and drainage and connecting road and an additional amount of Rs. 60 lakh for ancillary facilities such as drinking water, canteen, dormitory, washrooms and workshops in the terminal.

In addition to this, the port has already identified two truck terminals in VPT areas.

It has given 1.5 acres exclusively to BPCL for parking of trucks and another in western sector to APCL area. It has given five acres to Visakhapatnam Lorry Owners' Association for lorry parking.

The purpose of creating new parking terminals was to ease congestions and ensure faster evacuation of cargo, Mr. Krishna Babu said.

District Collector Pravin Kumar, GVMC Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan, Additional DCP (Traffic) Mahendra Patrudu and others participated in the meeting.
