Mission Parivar Vikas to curb population growth

NewDelhi, June 16: Central government is taking steps to curb the growth of population. The government will soon roll out the 'Mission Parivar Vikas' program to improve family planning services in 146 districts of the country.

The selected districts comprise 28 percent of the country's population. The districts are selected based on a total fertility rate (TFR) of 3 and above. The states comprising these districts are Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Assam. These areas will be focused to give high quality family planning choices based on information, reliable services, and supplies.

Experts say that TFR (the number of children who would be born per woman) will have a direct correlation with a maternal mortality rate (MMR) and infant mortality rate (IMR).Union Health Minister J P Nadda said that these 146 districts are an obstacle in population stabilization of the country. He also said that the government will study each district to find out reasons why fertility rates are higher and measures will be taken to address them.

Sources say that the health ministry will distribute a kit to newly-wed couples as a part of the program, Minister has further elaborated the steps which will be taken and let's hope that the new scheme launched will be a greater success in stabilizing the population of the country.
