Rajasthan COP make controversial comments on woman

Rajasthan, Jodhpur June 15: Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Tuesday night arrested station house officer (SHO) of Rajeev Gandhi Nagar police station in Rajasthan's Jodhpur for seeking sexual favors from a woman for weakening a narcotics case lodged against her husband.

SHO was arrested after he was allegedly caught red-handed attempting to do objectionable act with the woman at her house situated in a cafe compound near Chopasani Housing Board in Jodhpur.

SHO, Kamaldan Charan also demanded Rs 2 lakh bribe. He, in fact, received Rs 1 lakh bribe in cash, and another Rs 1 lakh in cheque. He was to return the cheque after the woman had met his demand for sex. The woman gave the ACB an audio in which SHO could be heard demanding sexual favor.

The woman's husband had been arrested in possession of one kg opium on June 3. The police arrested the husband under the NDPS Act. Charan assured the woman that he would reduce the quantity of opium to 200 grams in police records and it would weaken the case against her husband.

The woman contacted the SHO Kamaldan Charan through a middleman.

Charan allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh from her.

The woman gave her Rs 1 lakh cash and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.

"It was when his intentions went haywire. Since June 6, Charan started messaging woman on WhatsApp and sent objectionable content. He used to claim that he loved her and asked questions such 'Do I look smart?', " said an ACB officer.

Charan went on a leave and returned a few days ago.

On Monday, Charan called her up and said that he was looking for a safe place to have fun. He turned up at her house at 11.30 pm, but the woman made an excuse that she was not feeling well. SHO returned disappointed.

He then called up the woman again on Tuesday and allegedly told that he was on night patrol and would come to her house to have some fun. Charan allegedly said that Rs 1 lakh bribe was to claim his car back. The car had been compounded in a police case. He promised that he would return the cheque of Rs 1 lakh as a token of their friendship.

The woman tapped the conversation and registered a complaint with the ACB.

Kamaldan showed up at the woman's house around 8 pm. He returned the cheque of Rs 1 lakh to the woman. He bolted the bedroom from inside and allegedly started making a move on her in her bedroom when she signaled the ACB.

Charan has been booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is going on.
