Indian Railways to modify 40000 coaches

New Delhi, June 14: A good news for Train passengers.Indian Railways has launched a Mission called Retro-Fitment which enables to improve the passengers' experience by 2022.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu spoke after launching the mission on Tuesday he said that "aim of the mission Retro-Fitment is to upgrade existing railway coaches with better furnishing, aesthetics & amenities and better safety features which enhance a safe and comfortable travel experience for passengers"

He said that existing 40000 coaches will be retrofitted by 2022. The main features of the new coaches replaced are

World class Ambiance
* Panels without visible screws.
* LED Lights.
* Modular Bio-toilets with concealed plumbing.
* Branded fittings.
* Powered Venetian blinds.
* Anti-Graffiti coating.

Passenger Safety
* Fire and Smoke Detection System (in newly manufactured AC coaches).
* Double acting compartment door (in AC coaches).
* Rounded edges at most locations for injury-free.



Passenger convenience
*Passenger Address & Passenger Information System.
*Braille Signage.
*Ergonomic design.
*Increased number of mobile/laptop charging points.
*Materials such as Polycarbonate ABS, Advanced Composites, Glass Fibre
Reinforced Plastic, GFRE, Stainless Steel will be used.

Officials say that approximately it costs Rs 30 lakh to refurbish one coach of a train. The railways have set a road map for this mission. the target for each year is as follows

* 2017-18 1000
* 2018-19 3000
* 2019-20 5000
* 2020-21 5500
* 2021-22 5500
* 2022-23 5000
* The railways will manufacture 15000 new coaches with upgraded
interiors in coming five years.

Finally, let's hope that Indian railways complete its mission on time so that passengers travel experience is enhanced.
