Government to revise GDP base year to 2017-18

New Delhi, June 13: The government is looking at revising the GDP base year from 2011-12 to 2017-18 after the results of household consumption and labor force surveys are received by 2018-end.

"My ministry has planned to revise the base year of national accounts statistics to 2017-18. The preparatory work for this huge exercise has been started," Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation D.V. Sadananda Gowda told reporters on Tuesday at a conference on the NDA government's three-year achievements.

Chief Statistician T.C.A. Anant said, "It will take some time because household consumption survey, labor force survey will be used for this. Results of both the surveys will be available only from 2018 onwards. These are critical inputs for base revision."

A factsheet on the Indian economy is also in the pipeline to facilitate decision-making at the senior level of the government.

"Concerned Ministers will provide quarterly data on 100 important indicators of the Indian economy."
