Plastic idly in Chennai

Chennai, June 9: Reports of Plastic Rice sale has created a sensation. Telugu Media reported the supply of plastic rice for poor in ration quota couple of days ago. Now, We hear about plastic idly in another Southern State.

In the past two days, Food Safety Officials have conducted raids on few medium-range hotels in Chennai's Anna Nagar & Teynampet. They came to know that plastic sheets have been used in the preparation of idly's. Plastic sheets weighing as much as 11 kgs has been seized from these hotels.

In Anna Nagar alone, Food Safety Officials recovered 6 kg plastic sheet after raids in over 30 hotels. About 5 kg plastic sheet was seized in raids at Nungambakkam of Teynampet Mandal.

Experts say Chemicals used for the preparation of plastic will make such Idlies harmful for consumption. It could lead to digestion problems and liver cancer as well.
