Modi government to scrap UGC,AICTE

NewDelhi June 6: The central government has completed 3 years in power but not stepped away from the reformist approach. The NDA government will soon reform Higher Education Sector. The government is planning to scrap two old regulatory bodies such as University Grants Commission UGC and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and replace them with Higher Education Empowerment Regulation Agency (HEERA).

Sources say that the PM Modi has already given in-principle approval for the merger of these two institutions. Officials say that this reform would be helpful for higher education in the country. Experts say that this step would remove Inspector Raj of UGC and more autonomy will be given to new and existing universities.

Officials say that the formation of HERA legislation is in fast track process and is being looked after by NITI AYOG. Meanwhile, the government is planning to implement the reform by making changes in the rules of UGC and AICTE acts.

Earlier many committees have recommended scrapping the institute but it was never implemented. Let's hope that this government moves forward in the direction because it's high time that there is no difference between Technical and Nontechnical education.
