Indian railways pledges to reduce pollution

Delhi, June 5: Indian Railways has celebrated World Environment today. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has attended the event organized at Delhi today. He has addressed the gathering. He said that "Indian Railways will soon reduce its dependence on conventional fuels such as diesel".

He said that steps are beeing taken to increase the speed of track electrification. Prabhu said that “reducing dependence on diesel is our commitment to environment protection". We have fast-tracked the project of electrification and it will soon show results. Minister has also released the 2016-17 annual report on environment sustainability of the Indian Railways today.

He said that his ministry has created a separate environment directorate and it will be working with United Nations Environment Programme. Finally, he said that we have saved RS 300 crore to the government by focusing on water conservation and in future, we will completely shift to alternative non-polluting fuels.

Let's hope Indian railways succeeds in its mission so that India stands committed to Paris Climate change Agreement.
