GHMC Commissioner denies all restoring road works

Hyderabad, May 31: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy has directed the officials of all departments and denying permission for further road digging for laying cables and other works to complete pending road restoration works before Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has been permitted time till June 10 to complete restoration works. The HMWSSB had taken up works covering 1,164 kilometers, out of which 864 kilometers have already been restored.

The decision came after a meeting held by GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy with representatives of various companies like Airtel, L&T, Bhagyanagar Gas etc., to discuss restoration works. All the companies were asked to complete the pending restoration works by Wednesday.

The Commissioner, who also held a review meeting with engineers of GHMC and HMWSSB, said if any department wanted to dig roads for taking up emergency works, they will have to obtain permission from the government.

"In case the government permits emergency works, concerned executive engineers must personally monitor the works and complete restoration on priority," Reddy said.

Apart from restoration works, other aspects including desolation, monsoon preparedness, establishing emergency teams and an action plan to tackle emergency situations were also discussed.

Strict instructions were issued to engineers to put up display boards at work sites duly informed about the works and the scheduled time of when the works were to be completed.

"Phone numbers of contractors and concerned officials will also have to be displayed at the work sites," the Commissioner said.
