Air India to be Privatized?

Delhi, MAY 28: Another major reform is in central government pipeline. The central government is considering to privatize Air India a government owned airlines industry. Arun Jaitley the Finance Minister was speaking to DD news on the completion of 3 years of his government.

He said that"the government is in favor of selling off its stake in Air India totally if we find a suitable investor".

He also added that currently 84 percent of the aviation market is run by private airlines and very soon it will reach 100 per cent.

He also added that Air India has a marginal market share but a massive debt of Rs 50,000 crore.
Sources say that government owned airlines share has dropped to 14.1 percent. He recalled that he has proposed for total disinvestment of the company.

Finally, he concluded his speech by speaking about a lot of other issues such as bank NPAs.

Let's hope that government will soon announce another major reform so that the debt of poorly handled and low-quality service provided by Air India would not be borne by the taxpayer.
