Dist. Collector gets money Order from a woman

Chennai, may 28: Frustrated over alleged bribe demand by a revenue official for sanctioning funeral expenses of her father, a woman has sent a money order for rs2000 to the district collector, being the part payment.

From this perspective, The District Collector refused to receive the money order. An appropriate action would be taken after the completion of the inquiry, the officials said.

The Woman in her letter said that she had been running from pillar to post to get the funeral expenses, granted by the govt to people below poverty line, and obtaining the death certificate of her father, who passed away on August 30, 2016

She said herself and her husband spent Rs 1500 visiting the VAO office Taluk office and the collectorate several times for getting the amount sanctioned but the VAO insisted on payment of the bribe.

Frustrated by the rude attitude of the officials, the woman wrote to the collector and sent the money order for Rs 2000 saying it was part of the amount demanded as bribe by the VAO.
