Thummala Surprise visit to construction works

Hyderabad, May 19: The Telangana Minister for Roads and Buildings Thummala Nageshwara Rao has made a surprise visit to the construction site at Adarsh Nagar here on Thursday.

He expressed dismay at the slow pace of new MLA quarters construction works in the city. He wanted officials to take action against the work agency for repeatedly extending the deadline.

The Minister Thummala was questioned and concerned officials why they were unable to extract work from the agency.

Initially, the agency assured the government to complete the works before March 31. But the deadline was further extended to May 31. "Even as the deadline is coming nearer there is no sign of the works getting completed," the Minister deplored.

He wanted to know from the work agency and the officials when exactly the work would be completed. He warned of stern action if they failed to honor the assurance.

The Minister said already assurance was given to the Speaker, S Madhusudhana Chary, for handing over the quarters as per schedule. But due to slow work, the government couldn't keep its promise.

Actual permission for construction of MLA quarters was given during the united AP in 2012. On August 22 of the same year, the government handed over the site for the work agency with the pre-assurance of completing it in 18 months.

But even after five years the agency was unable to complete even two blocks out of four, the Minister said and directed officials to expedite the work.
