Kulbhushan Jadhav case: Pakistan to wait?

New Delhi, May 18: The International Court of Justice has ordered Pakistan not to execute alleged spy Kulbhushan Jadhav till a final decision is taken. They made the above statements her on Thursday.

It is the major relief to India.

While reading out the verdict on Kulbhushan Jadhav, ICJ President Rony Abraham also rejected Pakistan's contention that the World Court had no jurisdiction on the Jadhav death sentence case. Judge Abraham said that prima facie, the court has jurisdiction on the Jadhav matter.

India on Monday had sought the court's intervention for an immediate suspension of Jadhav’s death sentence, fearing that the Indian national may be executed even before the ICJ decided the case.

Since Jadhav's arrest in March 2016, India has sought consular access 16 times. Pakistan has rejected each and every request, claiming that since Jadhav is charged under espionage, Islamabad does not need to grant New Delhi consular access to him.
