Prakasham Barrage gates opened by mentally unfit person

Vijayawada MAY 17: Another mega water wastage has happened near Vijaywada yesterday.

A 40-year-old man who is suspect to be mentally unstable has opened two crest gates of the Prakasam Barrage on the Krishna river.

Workers who were present near the barrage have said that a man was playing with the switches that operated the gates.

They also said that when they reached the spot water was flowing out.
Later they grabbed him and closed the gates but the damage had already taken place.



Some tourists nearby the river area have shared their experience saying that thousands of gallons gush downstream, and led to wastage of water.

Irrigation officials claimed that amount of water wastage could have been used by Vijayawada and Guntur for 10 days.

Finally, the police have arrested Bangaru babu and taken him into custody.
