New Delhi MAY 16: Central Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said that the government had doubled the Disaster Relief Fund for states.

He said that we have increased the fund to Rs 61,000 crore for 2015-20.
He said that both center and states should adopt essential preventive steps to reduce disaster risks.
He also said that " Prevention is better than cure".

The Minister said the above statements during the inaugural session of the meeting of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR).

Minister said that the main agenda of this year's NPDRR event is to prepare a roadmap for 2030 in disaster management.

He has recollected some of the important disasters that took place in India.

He also said that "to reduce disaster consequences, we should take many steps such as prevention, mitigation preparedness, response, reconstruction, and rehabilitation and we should prepare an action plan from 2017 to 2030".

Finally, he said that 50 % of India is prone to disaster so we must take steps before any damage occurs.
