Malaria in India by 2030

Kolkata May 14: The central government has announced that It wants to make India free from Malaria disease by 2030. As a part of this, the officials are hoping that "by 2020 we will eliminate malaria from 15 states of the country and make sure that an annual parasite incidence (API) of less than one case per thousand population is acheived in the 15 states".

Dr AC Dhariwal, Director of the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) in the health ministry, told the media that already 70 % of India is Malaria free and by 2030 will eliminate the rest 30% .

He said that certain districts in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura are in high-risk malaria zone and will take more time to eliminate the disease from these districts,



He also said that "the malaria burden in India has reduced significantly, because of the introduction of new interventions for case management and vector control, Artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT), Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) and effective Monitoring and Evaluation.

He finally, concluded that with we will take more steps to make sure that India will be malaria free by 2030.
