Sri Lanka President thanked Modi

Colombo, May 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been participated in the International Vesak Day celebrations in the Sri Lankan capital here on Friday. It is the biggest festival of Buddhists.

This is the Modi's second visit to Sri Lanka in two years, Here Modi was received by his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe at the venue amid traditional fanfare.

The Prime Minister, who is the chief guest at the event, lit lamps - a traditional practice. Sri Lankan President Maithripala Srisena was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion Modi said that, We will give full support to the Sri Lanka. This is the first time that Sri Lanka is hosting the International Vesak Day, recognized by the UN. The theme of the event is "Buddhist teachings for social justice and sustainable world peace".

However, Several Buddhist monks chanted prayers during which Modi closed his eyes and kept his hands folded.

Sri Lankan President said that "Proud to host Vesak Day celebrations in Colombo. I want to thank Prime Minister Modi for being the chief guest during the celebrations,"
