WHO grants permission to manufacture biosimilar cancer drugs

London MAY 4: We know that cancer treatment is a costly affair.

Many poor people cannot afford treatments because the drugs/ Medicines are costly

The Reasons for a high price of cancer drugs are

*The Drugs are prepared from Bioactive ingredients which are costly

*Many companies have Patents on drugs which make
medicines costly.

*Import taxes for developing countries to import medicines.

In order to overcome the above problems and to make the Medicines available to poor at an affordable price
WOrld Health Organization WHO has invited drug manufacturer companies to manufacture "biosimilar "drugs for cancer.



We know that biosimilar drugs are the medicines which have the same active compound of the original medicine but the final composition and structure will be different.

Being a duplicate of the original drug the developing countries can also manufacture these drugs and supply in their countries so that these drugs become affordable.

Earlier WHO denied permission to drug companies to manufacture "biosimilar" stating patent problems.

Finally, with growing deaths of cancer patients in developing countries and the Patents of major companies coming for expiry WHO has granted permission.

Let's hope that in future Cancer drugs may become cheap.
