People hospitalised due to sunstroke

Kadapa April 29: Around 3,579 people have been affected by heatwave this season in the Andhra Pradesh State so far.We all knew that As mercury rises, the number of sunstrokes affected too is on the rise.

Officers of State Health department and Disaster Management Authority say Kadapa alone reported 2,127 cases. In this month, 18 deaths have been reported in govt hospitals.

Meanwhile, Though the State govt is coming up with initiatives to grapple with the problem, they are not enough. It has been conducting medical camps, setting up drinking water kiosks, summer shelters and conducting awareness programmes and distributing pamphlets on do’s and dont’s. However, the number of those hospitalised is quite high.



M V Seshagiri Babu, Director of AP Disaster Management Authority said that "We are almost spending Rs 16 crore to Rs 17 crore on awareness campaigns on heat wave, Rs 75 crore on transportation of drinking water in rural areas and Rs 73 crore in urban areas. There is an emergency centre located at Tadepalli village and we also get hourly information from all the districts. We have assigned few IAS officers to implement these measures. Apart from these, there are some summer shelters, medical camps organised by health department,"

Neat About 30 to 40 patients are being admitted to Vijayawada Government General Hospital every week.
