French Open prize increased

Parris April 27: French Open organizers have increased the tennis grand slam tournament's prize money by 12 percent to 36 million euros.

They have also narrowed the gap between the earnings of the men's and women's winners and the first-round losers.

The two champions of the second grand slam championship of 2017 will pocket 2.1 million euros each, up 100,000 euros from 2016.

First-round losers will earn 35,000 euros ($A50,900).

The figures were announced by tournament director Guy Forget

The French Open runs from May 28 to June 11.
