Online Information System for Medical Admissions

Hyderabad, April 26: The Medical Council of India has released a notice, which was issued on April 17 to ensure that the admissions are made following parameters based upon the judicial decisions and MCI regulations.

Ahead of the post-graduate medical admissions, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has launched an online information system for the academic year 2017-18 to weed out illegal admissions in medical colleges.

"In order to effectively monitor all admissions made in courses of medicine are in conformity with the requirement of regulations, an online monitoring system has been launched by the council," reads the notice.

It further states that the initiative is made with the objective of ensuring faithful adherence to the norms of admission laid down in regulations as also to promote further transparency and accountability in the medical education.

In the online system, all colleges have to submit the requisite data of all students admitted in PG (broad and super-speciality) from May 20 onwards. While the online monitoring system will be open for broad specialty course on May 20, the same for the super-speciality course will be open on August 20.

"Medical colleges institutions must submit their student's admission details latest by June 7, 2017, for broad specialty and September 7, 2017 for super-speciality courses beyond which the colleges institutions will not be allowed to enter the details," states the notice.

In the OMS, colleges have to enter details such as course name, sanctioned intake capacity, no of recognized seats, no of permitted seats, total no of seats, date of admission, a name of the student, NEET score etc.

Until last year, several colleges took admissions in the management quota without considering merit-system.But this year, the MCI has directed all colleges to give admissions strictly in accordance with merit and in a transparent and fair manner.

"Any violation shall lead to the discharge of the concerned student from the courses and such action against the concerned medical college institution as is permissible in law," states the notice.
