Vodafone has complained TRAI about Jio

New Delhi, April 11: We all know that Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has suggested Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) stop the Summer Surprise offer in last week, but Vodafone has complained to Trai about the Jio.

Vodafone has sent written a letter to Trai, that "Reliance Jio is continuing the offer held as not meeting regulatory norms, in the garb of configuration changes. From the past three days, it has been promoting and attracting the customers to quick recharge to avail the benefits of non-compliant offers and also asking its retailers to communicate the same thing."

In the Last week, Trai, advisory, told to Jio to take back its Summer Surprise offer, has the operator was providing its Prime members with 1GB data per day and free local and STD calls for three months on opting for the Rs 303, as it did not fit the regulatory framework. Jio announced the takeback of the offer adding, "As soon as operationally feasible".

Vodafone further added in the letter that, "In our view, such promotions of the customers on an offer held as non-compliant, is a blatant violation and disregard of Trai’s advisory. Such promotions to customers make the regulatory advisory meaningless. Further, it paints a wrong picture to customers, of non-robust regulatory framework where non-compliant offers are allowed to be sold in the market."

While we spoke to a Jio spokesperson, he said that "Please refer to our press release which was announced on April 6, wherein we made it clear that Jio Summer Surprise offer will be withdrawn as soon as it is operationally feasible, in compliance with the regulator's advice. All the customers who had subscribed to Summer Surprise offer prior to its discontinuation will be remain eligible for this offer. We are pained to note such continued and deliberate the attempts by competitors to create unnecessary confusion in the people."
