Air India to start university in Hyderabad

New Delhi April 11: India's national carrier, Air India, is planning to come up with an aviation university that will not only provide a number of course programs to students but will also add to its revenue system in the long term.

Officials of the airlines say the airline is already exploring avenues to set up a university to improve its financial condition.

The idea behind setting up an aviation university will help in providing aviation training programs for pilots. That apart, it will have specific programs for cabin crew.

Additionally, it will enable operations staff to carry out functions effectively and last, but not the least, it will provide practical training to the engineering staff with respect to the airline industry.



Mr. Ashwin Lohani, the Chief Managing Director of Air India, told media persons that it is looking forward to creating a world-class university and is planning to make it heavily commercial.

According to official reports, the airline will allow other airlines to utilise the resources (infrastructure, faculty etc.).

Pilots from various airlines will be inducted for type rating (i.e. training for a specific aircraft type).

The university will offer diploma as well as certificate courses initially. Later, degree courses will also be launched as planned.
