Pelli Choopulu director got upset

Hyderabad March 31: International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Utsavam 2017 was held on Wednesday, and awards have been distributed, but most of the awards have been given to 'Janatha Garage' only.

Tharun Bhascker, who made his directorial debut with last year's biggest blockbuster based on Return On Investment (ROI), Pelli Choopulu, vent out his anguish over the award events.

Soon after the IIFA Utsavam event held the other day in Hyderabad, Tharun shared an elaborate post on facebook ridiculing the organizers for just appeasing the fans and stars and not encouraging good cinema.

'Pelli Choopulu' was one of the best Telugu films of 2016. Tharun received appreciation from every corner for making a low budget film with rich content and high technicalities. The novelty of the film can be gauged from the fact that the likes of Gautham Menon and Vashu Bhagnani have acquired the film's Tamil and Hindi remake rights.

Barring the Best Comic Actor award for Priyadarshi at IIFA, not a single other award was given to this gem of a film at any award event. This seems to have upset Tharun.

He, however, said that he wouldn't fall into the trap of stars and routine commercial format and will continue making experimental cinema irrespective of the not getting recognized at award events.
